1st Trimester (MS Word, MS Excel, Photostory)
Students will learn skills using a word processor (Microsoft Word 2007) that will help them in all classes. Students will also be introduced to MS Access for the first time designing and populating databases. Below is a list of some skills that will be learned in the class.
* Using, creating and formatting tables
* using, creating and formatting charts
* using Auto-shapes and bullet list
* using Word Art, Smart Art, Clip Art, and symbols
* Basic formatting (setting up margins, changing font type and size, line and character spacing, using bold, Italics and Underline, page layouts including columns, orientation setups, adding headers and footers, using drop caps, subscript, superscript and alignment toolbars)
*Using equation builder and creating citations and bibliographies using the new references tab in MS Word 2007
*Using tools such as spelling and grammar check, thesaurus, translate and word count.
* Organizing personal H: drives by creating folders and subfolders
* Create organized linked webs with text and photos using Inspiration
* Using MS Excel, students will learn to setup, format and manipulate spreadsheets. Students will learn to do such things as inserting pictures, word art, clip art, smart art, and shapes into their spreadsheets. Students will learn to format spreadsheets including borders, header and footers, scaling, orientation, margins, themes and colors, and number formatting like currency, percentages and decimals. Students will also learn how to make all sorts of different graphs that are appropriate for the data they have as well as how to format them. Students will learn to incorporate math functions and simple formulas to make calculations from data.
* Using MS Access students will learn to create and populate databases. They will create databases using templates and self created ones from scratch. Students will learn to create tables and use data types such as text, OLE objects, numbers, date/line, yes/no, and lookup wizards. Students will learn to design custom reports and print them. Students will also learn how to do a simple table query.
* Students will also be exposed to Irfanview which is a free software application to edit phots and clip art.
*In Microsoft Photo-story students will take pictures and make a slide show with captions and music.

2nd Trimester (MS Powerpoint, Hyper-studio and Irfanview)
Students will learn presentation skills using two different applications (Powerpoint and Hyperstudio) Skills learned in this class include, but are not limited to the following.
* Setting up and running a slide show. Students will learn to present projects several different ways. (Manually, using rehearsed timings, and rehearsed timings with narration)
* Students will learn to incorporate design elements into their projects like slide transitions, custom animations, slide designs and custom backgrounds using paint.net and other custom graphic applications.
* Students will learn to insert many different types of media into their presentations to make their projects better including clipart movies, internet hyperlinks, sound clips from existing sound files or internet, smart art, word art, auto-shapes, charts, tables, pictures and self recorded introductions using a microphone.
*Students will learn how to setup, design, and present a Hyper-Studio project from scratch. Projects will include design elements such as open ended project progression, predesigned and custom made backgrounds and pictures, card transitions, hyperlinks, automatic timings for slides, computer blabber mouth sounds and self made voice recordings, clip art, word art, motion paths and custom animations. Students will also learn to create project elements in other applications then transfer them to Hyper-Studio to be incorporated into their projects.

3rd Trimester (MS Publisher, MS Access, Computer Hardware)
Students will learn desktop publishing skills making a variety of documents as well as identifying computer hardware and its function to the operation of a computer system. Students will also learn simple coputer maintenance practices to keep their computers running at peak performance. Activities done and skills learned in class include, but are not limited to the following.
* In the hardware/maintenance unit students learn to identify and explain the function of common outer and inner computer hardware components such as expansion cards, RAM, motherboards, different types of ports, power supply, modem, wireless and ethernet connections, CPU and cooling systems, different types of monitors and cases etc. Different types of input and output devices including trackballs, touch pads, mouse, keyboard, mocrophone, printers etc. Students will have hands on experience by disassembling computers in class and identifying each part along with its function. students will be required to reassemble the computers back to their former condition. Students will learn basic computer maintenance practices such as defragmenting hard drives, running disk clean up utilities, updating driver devices, running virus protection etc. Students will be given a pretend budget and they will search and pretend to buy all the necessary components to build their own computer online then enter the information into a spreadsheet.
* Using MS Publisher and the Frillio's Pizza simulation students will learn to create desktop publishing documents such as business cards, letterheads, restaurant menu, posters, bumper stickers, refrigerator magnets, promotional puch cards, hours of operation sign, cup coasters, coupon flyers, place mats and gift certificates etc. Students will learn to design the above mentioned documents from scratch using many design elements such as graphics, logos, bulleted list, borders and border art, shapes etc. Projects are expected to look professional enough to use in a real restaurant setting.
* Using MS Access students will learn to create and populate databases. They will create databases using templates and self created ones from scratch. Students will learn to create tables and use data types such as text, OLE objects, numbers, date/line, yes/no, and lookup wizards. Students will learn to design custom reports and print them.
